Session Summary: Pirates and Merchants, from Sink to Arunisiir
PCs present: Lyra, Daijiro, Yaang-ki, Den, Klaiton, Pika. (Jimmy is mentioned in the plans).
NPCs present: Krrsh, King Oleb XVI, Thao Poloc, First Officer Mari Jagad, Marine Salvesdes, Prince Harrick (All mentioned or seen through broadcasts).
Only major developments in the lives of the PCs or the long term campaign goal of rebuilding the Kingdom of Drinax:
The crew has achieved a significant economic boost for their campaign by successfully intercepting a large corporate mining freighter in Inurin, stealing more than 87 tons of uncommon minerals. After selling this cargo in Arunisiir, they obtained over half a million credits. Additionally, they have decided to head to Blue with the intention of investing in the local aerospace industry to win the favor of Prince Harrick and continue weaving alliances for the reconstruction of Drinax, before setting course for Oghma.
Loose ends from the session that are unexplained or need to be followed up later in the campaign:
- The final fate of the secondary biotechnological infiltration mission on Thalassa and the extraction of the doctor.
- The need to forge the ownership papers for the ship Wildberry without the Third Imperium authorities discovering the connection to Drinax.
- The mystery of who trained the enemy troops in Cordan, a lead that the local baroness prefers not to investigate for the moment.
- The serious repairs the ship needs after falling into the trap of a Third Imperium “Q-Ship” (decoy ship) in Arunisiir.
Session Joke:
The big joke of the session revolved around “luck” with the dice. While Iva failed miserably on almost all her rolls in the conversational adventure (almost causing the target to wake up ahead of time), the group redeemed themselves with very high rolls when looting the mining freighter. However, karma hit Daijiro at the end of the session: he decided to risk pirating one more ship in Arunisiir driven by greed, rolled a terrible result, and the “harmless” prey turned out to be an imperial trap ship that inflicted 3 million credits (or thereabouts) in structural damage.
Scene 1: Strategic Planning
PCs present: Lyra, Daijiro, Yaang-ki, Den.
NPCs present: None physically. (Krrsh, King Oleb XVI, and Thao Poloc are mentioned).
Place(s) and/or Planet(s): Spaceport (Sink).
Spaceships mention: Ginger (Far Trader), Wildberry.
Summary of the scene:
While waiting for news from a covert mission on Thalassa, the group debates their next moves. They agree to leave some nuclear warheads hidden on a moon of Hilfer instead of transporting them. They also plan for Krrsh to take his ship toward Thebus and Dostoevsky, while debating how to launder the Wildberry. The option of forging the ship’s sales papers using their contacts is considered, but they fear that if they do it in Drinax and are discovered, it could splash back on King Oleb XVI. Finally, they decide to use the “cleaner” ship for reconnaissance missions.
Scene 2: Small Game and Deception
PCs present: Lyra, Daijiro, Yaang-ki, Den, Klaiton, Pika.
NPCs present: None.
Place(s) and/or Planet(s): Deep space (Ergo), Deep space (Falcon).
Spaceships mention: Ginger (Far Trader).
Summary of the scene:
The crew jumps to Ergo with the intention of raiding a ship, but they spend an entire week without finding traffic worth the effort. They decide to jump to the Falcon system to try their luck. After patiently refueling, Klaiton detects a private yacht. They plan the interception, but upon boarding, they discover that the ship was practically empty, performing a test flight. They barely manage to scrape together 100 credits by stealing personal items before having to flee.
Scene 3: The Saxcorp Loot
PCs present: Lyra, Daijiro, Yaang-ki, Den, Klaiton, Pika.
NPCs present: None.
Place(s) and/or Planet(s): Gas Giant (Inurin).
Spaceships mention: Ginger (Far Trader), Maui (Aslan ship).
Summary of the scene:
Seeking to go unnoticed, they jump to Inurin, a balkanized low-tech world. After waiting a couple of weeks analyzing the routes, Den detects a massive mining freighter from the imperial corporation Saxcorp about to make its hyperspace jump without its escort. Using both the Ginger and the Maui for the assault, they execute an impeccable maneuver. They manage to steal 87.5 tons of uncommon ores, filling the holds of both ships to the brim.
Scene 4: Rest in the Marquisate
PCs present: Lyra, Daijiro, Yaang-ki, Den, Klaiton, Pika.
NPCs present: None from the list (they interact with local nobility).
Place(s) and/or Planet(s): Marquisate Estate (Cordan).
Spaceships mention: Ginger (Far Trader), Maui (Aslan ship).
Summary of the scene:
The group jumps to their fiefdom in Cordan. They land directly on their lands, where servants receive them with the latest wine harvest and inform them that the local civil war has calmed down. They attend a dinner with the local nobility. Lyra tries to get information about the military training of the rival factions, but she is advised not to stir the hornet’s nest now that there is peace. Upon trying to sell their colossal cargo of minerals, they realize that Cordan does not have the industrial capacity to buy them at a good price, so they decide to leave.
Scene 5: The Imperial Trap
PCs present: Lyra, Daijiro, Yaang-ki, Den, Klaiton, Pika.
NPCs present: First Officer Mari Jagad (Mentioned on TV; relentless, vengeful, Archetype: Antagonist), Marine Salvesdes (Mentioned).
Place(s) and/or Planet(s): Spaceport (Arunisiir).
Spaceships mention: Ginger (Far Trader), Martín II (Mentioned in news), Imperial Q-Ship (Modified Subsidized Merchant).
Summary of the scene:
The crew travels to Arunisiir to sell their cargo. At the spaceport, they see news in which First Officer Mari Jagad swears revenge against the pirates of the Trojan Reach for the death of Marine Salvesdes in the Martín II incident. Ignoring the warnings, Lyra leverages her commercial skills and manages to sell all the ore for about 550,000 credits. With empty holds, Daijiro attempts a quick assault on a small freighter before jumping. However, it turns out to be a trap: the prey is an Imperial Q-Ship armed to the teeth. The Ginger suffers massive damage valued at 3 million credits (or thereabouts) as they flee the system in a hurry, setting their course toward Blue to repair the ship and curry favor with Prince Harrick.
