Session Joke

The best joke came about when they were debating how to scan the surface of Ergo without having proper planetary probes or drones. Klaiton suggested tying Pika to a very long rope and hanging him below the atmosphere (“lowering him a little”) with sensors on his fingertips and some “glass tupperware” that he would open and close to trap atmospheric samples, using him as a human probe.

Scene 1: Planning and Fleet Distribution

PCs present: Den, Daijiro, Lyra, Pika.
NPCs present: None. (Gunners and pilots of the crew are mentioned).
Location(s): Deep space.
Ships mentioned:

Scene summary:
The session begins with a meta-game debate that shifts into the narrative. Den expresses his frustration at the lack of action and his desire to take on a “bad pirate” role to speed things up after several weeks of commercial inactivity. Lyra, however, prefers to avoid the crew launching into a suicide mission without their main ship (the Banshee was destroyed previously). To resolve the imminent encounter, they decide to organize: Den and Yaang-ki stay on the Maui at a safe distance, while Lyra, Pika, Daijiro, and the rest of the main crew sneak in on the Ginger (with life support systems at minimum for four days) toward the target’s position.

Scene 2: From Pirate to Pirate

PCs present: Lyra, Pika, Den, Daijiro, Klaiton.
NPCs present: Miria Silverhand (Challenging, suspicious, tough negotiator; archetype: Veteran rival pirate), Mari Jagad (mentioned), Ferrik Redthane (mentioned), Petyr Vallis (mentioned).
Location(s): Asteroid belt (Hilfer).
Ships mentioned:

Scene summary:
The Ginger locates the Mercyfish scrapping a water shuttle. Lyra opens communications with Captain Miria Silverhand, appearing relaxed but firm. Lyra warns her that the planet Hilfer is uniting against her and that the infamous bounty hunter Mari Jagad is in the system. Lyra proposes a “pirate to pirate” deal: if Miria leaves the system for a few weeks to let things cool down, they will share information on lucrative freighter routes in the future (offering a 60-40, then 50-50 split). Miria is skeptical and demands guarantees. Pika intervenes using his diplomatic skills and offers an advance of 75,000 credits (though due to a bad roll, this costs Pika a large portion of his personal savings). Miria agrees to leave and they agree to make contact again in 8 weeks. After Miria’s departure, the Ginger’s crew collects the 50,000 credit bounty from the local Belters for having resolved the problem.

Scene 3: Infiltration of the Forbidden World

PCs present: Pika, Lyra, Den, Yaang-ki, Klaiton, Daijiro.
NPCs present: None.
Location(s): Orbit and Gas Giant (Ergo System).
Ships mentioned:

Scene summary:
The crew prepares to travel to Ergo, a planet marked as a restricted zone by the Third Imperium. Before leaving, they buy a heavy “Hercules” tractor and a cargo crane that they install on the Ginger. After a week of travel through the Trojan Reach, they arrive in the system. They hide the Maui near a gas giant to refuel and the Ginger advances toward Ergo with transponders off. Pika uses electronic warfare to mask their signal and deceive the imperial satellites. They spend several days scanning the surface from orbit, discovering that Ergo is a living world with large agricultural operations, but also with ruins of radioactive cities. The coordinates that Daijiro provided point to a gigantic mountain range similar to the Himalayas, surrounded by perpetual storms.

Scene 4: The Tempest and the Stellar Osprey

PCs present: Klaiton, Lyra, Daijiro, Pika, Den, Yaang-ki.
NPCs present: None alive (one corpse from the previous crew).
Location(s): “Himalayan” mountain range (Ergo).
Ships mentioned:

Scene summary:
The crew equips themselves with environmental suits, cold-weather clothing, food for several days, and tents. Klaiton performs a masterful piloting maneuver through the hurricane-force winds of Ergo’s atmosphere to drop the team off on a plateau, then retreats with the Ginger to a safe area. Daijiro takes on the role of guide and, with Lyra’s help, leads an exhausting four-day march through erratic blizzards and deep snow.
Finally, they reach the coordinates and discover a calmer area where they dig up four sleds, frozen pack animals, and a collapsed tent. It belongs to the crew of the ship they are looking for: the Stellar Osprey. Inside the tent, they discover electronic equipment intentionally destroyed with hammers and the frozen corpse of a man with an ice axe stuck in his brain. Lyra’s autopsy reveals that the man suffered from severe radiation burns on his hands before his murder. As they process the scene and try to find a trail toward the ship, a gust of wind clears their vision for a second, revealing a mysterious figure riding a beast watching them from the top of the rocks, which quickly disappears.
